Punjab Announces Major Textbook Changes for Middle and High School Students
The Punjab government has introduced a significant update for the upcoming academic year, confirming that 29 textbooks for middle and high school classes will be replaced. The move is led by the Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) as part of its plan to modernize and improve the quality of education across the province.
What’s Changing?
According to the latest announcement, PECTAA will update textbooks for Classes 6 to 9.
Class 9 will undergo the biggest curriculum shift, with 18 textbooks being revised or replaced entirely. This large-scale update aims to improve learning materials, modernize content, and align textbooks with updated teaching standards.
Why the Textbooks Are Being Revised

Introduce clearer, student-friendly explanations and activities
-
Ensure uniformity across government and private educational institutions
The new textbooks are already under development to ensure that schools receive them before the start of the next academic session.
Instructions Issued to Schools and Publishers
PECTAA has formally notified all educational institutions across Punjab about the upcoming changes.
Publishers have also been advised to begin new printing orders immediately so that the revised textbooks are available on time and without distribution delays.
This early notification is expected to help:

Schools prepare teachers for curriculum changes
-
Bookshops arrange inventory
-
Parents plan ahead for new book purchases
